2009 Minnesota
Election Results

Five of six Progressive Majority candidates were elected. Not only were five progressives elected, but there were some key victories:

  • Progressives took control of the Maplewood City Council two years ago and conservatives have been preparing to take it back ever since. Just a few short weeks after a rash of hateful and cowardly attacks -- in the form of anonymous flyers taped to voters doors -- Jim Llanas has prevailed over two conservative candidates. Jim now joins 2007 Progressive Majority candidate John Nephew on a City Council that has shifted in just two years from one of the most conservative in the state to one of the most progressive. Congratulations, Jim!
  • Four of the five women Progressive Majority supported won yesterday. These women were part of a unique program to "invite women to run" which is helping to break down traditional barriers for elected office. Anne Mavity defeated a well-known conservative and will be joining Julia Ross on the St. Louis Park City Council. Congratulations to Amber Greves, Anne Mavity, Julia Ross and Lonni Skrenter!
