Dean Nielsen, National Political Director on January 12, 2010 2:26 PM
Abel is the first Latino and the youngest to be elected to this position. "I take the responsibility of presidency, entrusted to me by my colleagues, with great honor," Guillen said. "Everyone realizes that a very difficult budget year lies ahead for the Peralta Colleges, but with our students, faculty, staff and community working together, Peralta will emerge from California's economic crisis as a stronger organization with improved service to our students," Able stated upon his election.
Guillen, who represents several Oakland neighborhoods, is vice president of Caldwell Flores Winters Inc., where he has helped raise more than $2 billion in bond funding for public schools and colleges throughout California over the past 9 years.
