$40 Million Dollar Republican Threat

Last week, there was a good article in the Washington Post about the Republican State Leadership Council (RSLC) and a new brand organization called American Majority Project (AMP). Their work is nearly identical to the work of Progressive Majority - only they help to elect conservatives.

Here are a few quotes from their leadership:
RSLC leader Ed Gillespie:"Targeting 35 to 40 state legislative races this cycle could translate into 25 to 32 U.S. House seats over the next five cycles. It makes a lot of sense to get this right."

AMP leader James Erp: "Over the last four election cycles, Republican efforts have been unsuccessful in stopping Democrats from winning these elections and taking control in key states. American Majority Project and its experienced leadership will help Republicans and like-minded groups fight back and retake control of the redistricting process."

Ed Gillespie also mentioned that the RSLC alone will have $40 million at their disposal in 2010. $40 Million!! And the AMP budget will be in the tens of millions!

I can tell you right now that we don't have $40 million here at Progressive Majority. Multi-million dollar corporations give to organizations like RSLC and AMP, not us. That means we're going to need to work harder and smarter than our Republican counterparts - and as the only organization dedicated to electing progressives at the state and local level, we need your help to do it.

We might not be able to raise $40 million in contributions from corporations like Exxon Mobil, Phillip Morris and Wal-Mart but we can still succeed if we have enough people like you on our team!
