At age 22, Scott Dianda purchased a retail store in Calumet from his grandfather. As a small business owner, Scott gained real world business experience including meeting a payroll, developing budgets and staying within them. During that time, he was elected as a member of the Calumet Village Council and served for three years, including as president for part of that time. After selling the business, Scott took a position with the Michigan Department of Transportation. He became more involved with the Michigan State Employees Association and was elected president of the statewide union in 2008.
